Hi there. My name's Ruby Young and I'm the owner and designer behind the fashion accessory brand Rkt. "Rkt? What does that stand for?" Well, it's shorthand for Rocket - I'm absolutely in love with vintage futurism and space motifs, and I've particularly found myself drawn to the aesthetic of rocket designs from the '60s. This love has inspired a lot of my designs and you'll see space imagery repeat itself in my items.

Rkt was born pretty much by accident. I had spent most of my life working in the entertainment industry, but I was completely burnt out and was looking to do something different. While on vacation in Japan in 2014, I met a guy and we started dating. During our 6-month long distance relationship I was always making little bracelets to give to him when we would reunite. I discovered I had a real passion for creating accessories and Rkt was born!

Rkt is based in Tokyo, where I relocated to in the beginning of 2015 (no more long distance, yay!). Japan is endlessly inspiring so it has been a dream to have my workshop there. I use a large share space studio located in the Meguro neighborhood where I produce most of my designs. It's a wonderful share space that gives me access to state-of-the-art equipment, like the fabric printer I use to make our purses. Our sterling silver products, however, are made in Bangkok. I'm very fortunate in that I get to travel to Bangkok monthly to work hands on with a small family owned silver smith on the outskirts of the city.

I'm greatly looking forward to the new products that I will be able to create with the access to wonderful tools and materials. It's exciting to use not only age-old techniques, but also modern machinery to improve as a jeweler and hand-bag designer.
